Three 3TB drives currently inaccessible here.

Not sure whether the faulty SSD that Windows 8 was installed to had anything to do with it, but I just learned a costly mistake about why I should be backing up my media to blank Blu-Rays.

Has Microsoft given us a way to fix damaged metadata yet? I had a hardware failure on my old WHSv1 machine so I needed to migrate the data to a new storage solution, so I picked Windows 8 Pro and used the new Storage Spaces feature. I plan later to add a 1. So drive by drive I connect each one of the old WHSv1 drives to my new Windows 8 Pro machine and copy the files to the storage space. Everything was working great I was actually blown away with how simple it was to setup.

I had placed a lot of trust in this new storage spaces feature sadly. I should also mention foolishly I had formatted several of the WHSv1 drives after the drive copy to prep them to be added to the new storage pool.

Before creating a pool, click the View files option next to each drive that you wish to use, to check its contents.

Now you need to name the first storage space in your pool, assign it a drive letter and a maximum capacity, and pick your desired level of data resiliency.

Do pay attention to the resiliency setting, which entails selecting how Windows 8 renders your data redundant across multiple drives in the pool.
